Fuck your degree - University of Cambridge

But to the rest of you: fuck your degree. If you’re even slightly creative, but you’ve never really done any extracurricular stuff because in first year you just wanted to settle in and now it’s second year and work is getting scarily intense and you’re worried that you won’t be able to make anything good anyway – fuck all that. This is such a fucking unique time. Make things.Because you’ll never have this much free time again. A Cambridge degree is time intensive, but nowhere near as much as an actual job in the real world and then a spouse and kids and a house and ailing pets and unrepentant incontinent parents.Yes, getting a job when you leave here is important. And a good degree is a valuable thing.

This is the career you go after and these are the degrees and experience we recommend you attain.

Seriously though, fuck college.

I regret going to college. It’s the biggest regret of my life. When I look at my student debt, I get angry. When I think about the waste of time and life, I get angry. When I think about my kids… I regret going to college. It’s the biggest regret of my life. When I look at my student debt, I get angry. When I think about the waste of…I represent one of the worst cases. I changed my major several times and graduated with nearly $50k in student debt. I regret my institution, major, and degree choice.I started college wanting to get a double major in Computer Science and Art and, due to a complex series of stupid events (e.g. Hurricane Katrina, crappy class scheduling), ended up with a major in Economics and minor in Math. There was a point where that was just the quickest path to escape with a degree.51% of college grads regret at least one of their institution, degree type, or major decisions.

Did a recruiter make you send them a resume and still fill out all the same… I mean i would be more ok with it if there were any hope i could make my life worthwhile or get a job with this degree i busted my ass for but truth is that life isnt worth living and im apparently too entitled for wanting a job using the degree i got. ... Engineering has traditionally been one of the most secure career choices. The fact that even engineering grads struggle to find relevant work is a sign that the system is broken. It's not you. ... Fuck, engineering and never secured job from 2019?And if that’s something your current employer won’t vouch for, then a) fuck them, and b) explain that during the interview process (that your current employer is only willing to discuss your performance in your role as you were hired, and not any additional duties you picked up). It’s so fucked once you get in long unemployed phase it feels like it’s impossible to get hired.A few online tutorials, a bootcamp and you could hopefully land a job. Will it be a good job? Fuck no, but it sounds like it may be more money and a welcome change of pace.

I am only doing this degree for the sake of my parents as they have done a lot for me and are paying for my education. My personality has completely changed within the last 4 years, I am not as social as I used to be, I go out less and less, and have just become an overall negative person because the fact that I may need to do this for the rest of my life scares the living shit out of me. On top of that, I struggle to bond with people in my degree cause we just have such different interests.I feel like my personality conflicts with this degree but also I have lowkey forgotten my personality. I feel like a shell of the person I used to be and I feel like I have forgotten my old self. Is this something normal?

r/internetparents on Reddit: My degree is fucking useless

Posted by u/inahos_sleipnir - 8 votes and 20 comments So I graduated from a mid tier liberal arts college with a Poli Sci degree. Luckily I'm bilingual so I didn't have to worry finding a job... but my degree is straight fucking useless. Most degrees are useless, if you're expecting that your degree prepared you for a job. A degree is just the barrier to entry for most jobs.Employers don't care what your degree is in, just that you have one.Is there a career you're hoping to get into? There may be a better path than putting yourself another $100k in debt for a degree you may not need.

We’re telling these students that their degree is the same as a degree from any other university. These students are made to believe that if they got GPA X at their state school they would have gotten the same GPA if they went to a real school like Berkeley. When in reality these people are lucky if they have the education level of a talented 8th grader and wouldn’t pass any course at Berkeley. And courses at Berkeley are pretty fucking easy.So go ahead and celebrate. But you’ve just made these students incur an unnecessary debt only to have them find out that their degrees are useless. And now you want to send these students to graduate school? Are you fucking mental?Yep, you’re just retarded, like really fucking retarded. You were dropped on your head when you were young weren’t you? Sniff one too many markers? Aneuploidy? You just asked if a PhD is better than a BS from a state school for job prospects. Let that sink in. Regardless of the degrees, I would hope that someone approaching thirty has a better resume than someone in their early twenties. That’s why I went, and when I wasn’t allowed to perform the work I wanted to I said fuck it and started an independent career. And you should only go to graduate school if you are CAPABLE of performing science. Graduate students are not supposed to learn science; they are supposed to advance science. And unfortunately this means graduate students are not students, but rather scientists that do all the grunt work. Which would be fine if they were rewarded at some point for their work, but once they get their degree they are just tossed aside by the system with no useful skills while the people they did all the work for continue to enjoy their large salaries and job security.

There’s scholarships. But the fact of the matter is college is fucking EXPENSIVE.This blog has been bouncing around in my brain for a while. Then today I was Gchatting with White Sox Dave and we started talking about student loans and how for the most part college is a huge scam. ...And what do you learn? Not fucking much. First of all, they make you take all these general education classes which are completely meaningless. When you think about it, the fact you are paying loans because they made you take a Geology class freshman year is completely proposterous. Why? So you can put on your resume that you got a degree. Do jobs care what you actually learned in college? Not in the slightest. Do they care if your parents paid for it while you were boozing your face off 6 days a week or if you were working doubles at the Olive Garden to pay for it yourself?

Fuck Uni. Share ... This whole situation that we're in has exposed what University really is; a moneymaking machine that prints out degree certificates that also keeps you in debt to the Government. 421 votes, 58 comments. I'm so fucking sick of it. Delayed and incomplete assignments. No access to the library or lab computers. Connection issues…Well, to be fair, they said "stuff like khan academy", not just Khan Academy. You can learn nearly everything that would be covered in a maths degree by watching lectures on sites like YouTube, MIT OCW, Coursera etc., and textbooks are available to cover the rest. Also some pretty huge things you get from a degree are structure and accountability - as excellent as online resources can be nowadays, there isn't as much of a thing as a "high-level plan" to go through them. There are some valiant attempts, but inevitably when you're combining resources from so many places there will be gaps and inconsistencies. Also, with a uni degree you have to do things like coursework and exams - you can't just skim a few videos and claim you really know a topic. And while they can be flawed methods of assessment, one thing they're great as is making you really put in the time to learn and understand a topic.

A practical, vocational college major is a terrible fucking idea - The Context Of Things

Honestly, sometimes when I look at the gap between "what universities do to prepare students" and "how potential employers view students," I silently weep to myself. The gap between A and B is a fucking chasm; it's about 1,000 times wider than the Grand Canyon itself. Too much of college curricula is based on theory instead of applicable skills. Be that as it may, the general education requirements for a 4 year college degree at an accredited institution should be enough of a foundation to allow a person to successfully function in most positions.Honestly, sometimes when I look at the gap between “what universities do to prepare students” and “how potential employers view students,” I silently weep to myself.
